David Travesser’s real name is Wayne Bent. After reading the story linked above, you will likely conclude that his real name is much more appropriate to the dude’s alleged behavior.

The 66-year-old founder of The Lord Our Righteousness Church was arrested and charged with “three counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.”

Here’s what Wikipedia says about the Bent Mr. Travesser’s “church”:

The Lord Our Righteousness Church, sometimes called the Strong City Cult, is a splinter group of the Seventh-day Adventist Church located in a community the congregation calls “Strong City”, near Travesser Park, Union County, New Mexico. […] Its charismatic leader, Wayne Bent, born approximately 1942, is known as Michael Travesser within the church. He is believed by his followers to be the biblical messiah. Travesser has asserted, “I am the embodiment of God. I am divinity and humanity combined.”

You can check out the church’s lovely website here. Most interesting perhaps will be a statement by Travesser about “the current upheaval over” him:

It Is Supposed To Be This Way.

A choice quote:

But there is a reason men imagine a vain thing, and concoct the story that I am a pedophile or some other kind of pervert. It is because they spend hours in front of their computer screen taking in their pornographic images. They have placed their own corruption on me, and this judgment of me has condemned them. They have condemned themselves by the way in which they judge me…

I’m sure Travesser was patting himself on the back over that passage, but it’s pretty much par for the course with a certain hyper-literate brand of [alleged] pedophile — in the end, their troubles are always everyone elses’ fault.

In case the church decides one day to take Travesser’s post down, I made a copy.
